Sense of Place

A 6-Day International Writing Retreat in Sintra to develop your own work-in-progress or start a new project. 

  • Programme

    In this 6-day retreat, we will look for a sense of place in our narratives, delving deep into themes of displacement, belonging, otherness and saudade. We will look at place not only as a source of inspiration but also as an exploration of identity and a catalyst for conflict and emotions.

    Participants can choose to either develop their own work-in-progress or start a new project from scratch following guided writing sessions. 

    Each session will feature a new topic or theme along with excerpts of related literature from Portugal and from all around the world, and time for you to work on your own projects in the idyllic setting of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
